Helga Thompson
A lifelong educator, Helga Thompson brings local history to our group. She makes it sing alive with stories of residents now passed and ways of life almost forgotten. Her botany background is also helpful, most visibly in the Butternut garden which she oversees.
Helga is a first generation American, born in Virginia in 1956. Her parents and grandparents were homeless World War II refugees who immigrated to the USA to start a new life. She grew up in Chicago, graduated high school in Ohio, and earned a Bachelor's of Art in English and History at UAH in Huntsville, Alabama. Her husband's ancestors fought with George Washington and received land grants to settle the area of Winchester, TN. Her daughter graduated from FSU and lives in Florida. She and her husband live on a farm off of Dry Creek with a garden, two horses, chickens, rabbits, cats, and her best buddy Twinkie the chiahuahua.
